Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming enterprise finance through a shift from the traditional transactional and backward-looking approach to finance to a more intelligent and forward-looking approach. Developments in the use of machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, and intelligent automation are making it possible for finance teams to perform analysis of large datasets, automation of routine tasks, detection of anomalies, creation of forecasts, financial data interpretation, and decision support at very high speeds. This is exemplified in the increasing number of corporations embracing AI in finance functions, where a survey conducted by Gartner showed that 59% of finance leaders had incorporated AI in their finance functions in 2025, indicating how AI is becoming a part of finance. The success of AI-powered financial services hinges on data quality, system integration, cybersecurity, model accuracy, explain ability, regulatory compliance, and availability of relevant human skills. The advent of generative AI increases the possibilities of finance through the capability to work with financial information in the natural language and conduct knowledge-based operations, whereas the development of agentic systems can lead to linking analysis and automated workflow processing in the future. The review suggests that the sustainable transformation will be the result of cooperation between human and AI and intelligent technology supplementing professional judgement through credible data and results.
